Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the website foxnook.app. You can normally use our website without providing any personal data. Where personal data (such as your name, address or email address) is collected on our pages, this is always done on a voluntary basis. Privacy is important to us.

1. Data controller

2. General data collected on visit

When you access our website, your browser automatically transmits certain information to our web server for technical reasons. This information is stored in server log files. It comprises: the IP address of the requesting device, the date and time of access, the URL requested, the HTTP status code, the amount of data transferred, the page previously visited (referrer URL) and the user-agent string (which reveals the browser type and operating system). No cookies are set in the process, and no information is stored on or read from your device. The data is not merged with other data sources and is not used to identify individual visitors.

This information is processed solely to ensure trouble-free operation and to improve our offering. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the proper operation of the website).

Server log files are usually deleted after 14 days.

3. Hosting

This website is hosted in the European Union. The hosting provider is:

We have a data processing agreement with the provider in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR. Processing takes place exclusively within the EU / EEA.

4. Cookies and local storage

This website sets no cookies — no tracking, analytics or advertising cookies. When you acknowledge the notice banner, a single entry is stored in your browser's localStorage so the notice is not shown to you again. This entry contains no personal data, is never transmitted to us and can be deleted at any time via your browser settings. As this storage serves solely to provide the function you have used, no consent under § 25 (1) TDDDG is required (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG).

One exception applies to the support chat you start yourself: only once you actively start it does it set a strictly necessary cookie or local storage entry. See section 7 for details.

5. Audience measurement (Umami)

To compile statistics and improve our offering we use Umami, a privacy-friendly, self-hosted analytics tool. Umami runs on our own infrastructure in the EU; no data is shared with third parties outside our data processing.

Measurement is performed without cookies and without storing or reading information on your device. No identifiers that persist beyond a single visit are created, and no cross-site profiles are built. We record aggregated data such as pages viewed, referrer, approximate location (derived from a truncated IP address), device type and browser. The IP address is not stored.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in statistical audience measurement (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). As no information is stored on or read from your device, no consent under § 25 TDDDG is required. If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” signal, you are not counted. We do not use other analytics services such as Google Analytics, Matomo or Plausible.

6. Contact

If you contact us by email, your details will be stored to handle your request and in case follow-up questions arise. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (initiation of a contract) or Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering your enquiry).

7. Support chat (Chatwoot)

On our support page we offer a live chat. It is powered by Chatwoot, open-source software that we host ourselves on our own infrastructure in the EU at support.foxnook.app. No data is passed to an external chat provider and no data is transferred to a third country.

The chat is not loaded automatically. As long as you only view the support page, no connection to support.foxnook.app is established and no information is stored on or read from your device. Only when you click the “Start chat” button is the chat loaded. Chatwoot then sets a cookie or an entry in your browser's local storage so your conversation can be recognised across page loads. As you have actively requested this function and the storage is strictly necessary to provide it, we rely on § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG.

We process the content you enter in the chat (your messages and, optionally, your name and email address if you provide them) as well as technical data required to operate the chat (IP address, browser and operating system, message timestamps, the page you were on). Please do not share special categories of personal data within the meaning of Art. 9 GDPR via the chat.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR where the chat serves the performance or initiation of a contract, and otherwise Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in handling your enquiry efficiently). Chat transcripts are deleted as soon as they are no longer needed to handle your request, and at the latest after [support chat retention period], unless statutory retention obligations apply.

8. Foxnook app — linked services

This website links to the Apple App Store to offer the Foxnook app for download. When you click the link, you leave our website. The privacy policy of the respective provider applies. Data processing inside the Foxnook app is governed by a separate privacy policy available within the app.

This website also links to our web app at web.foxnook.app. That is a separate service of ours with its own privacy policy: using the web app is governed by that policy rather than this one. Merely displaying the link transmits no data to the web app.

9. Your rights

You have the following rights regarding personal data concerning you:

  • Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
  • Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority about our processing of your personal data (Art. 77 GDPR).

10. SSL/TLS encryption

For security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, this site uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the fact that the browser's address bar starts with "https://".

11. Changes to this privacy policy

We reserve the right to update this privacy policy from time to time so that it always complies with the current legal requirements or to reflect changes to our services. The version current at the time of your visit then applies.
